Our Mission
Our mission is to provide foster, low-income, at-risk children and youth in our local area with a safe and nurturing environment. We are committed to equipping them with the necessary and fundamental tools essential for individual success. By offering support, guidance, and resources, we aim to empower these young individuals to overcome adversity and achieve their full potential. Through our dedicated efforts, we strive to create a positive impact on their lives and foster a brighter future for our community.
Our History
Mental Mentors.Org is a community-based nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to serving the local community since 2005. Our flagship event, Community Appreciation Day, is a cherished annual celebration that brings together children from the community. This event is filled with fun and friendly competition as children form teams and participate in various skill challenges to win a range of exciting prizes while fostering a spirit of camaraderie and new friendships.
Recognizing the significance of mental health for children, Mental Mentors.Org has expanded Community Appreciation Day to include workshops aimed at breaking the stigma associated with seeking mental health services. We firmly believe in addressing the emotional well-being of children and equipping them with the necessary tools to navigate life's challenges. Our workshops cover a range of fundamental life skills, including team building, fitness, nutrition, financial literacy, and the importance of lifelong learning.
To further empower the African American children in foster care, Mental Mentors.Org has launched an initiative called Crowns & Cuts. This event focuses on providing free hair care services to both boys and girls while emphasizing the importance of self-care and its impact on self-esteem. Alongside the hair services, we also educate caregivers on hair and skin maintenance specific to children of color. By addressing the unique needs of African American children in foster care, we aim to uplift and empower them through a holistic approach.
